Unlike her younger brother, Mabel tends to see the world as half full. Due to this, she sees everything in an optimistic light and tries to look on the brighter side of things. At the same time, however, that doesn’t stop her from being self-absorbed and egotistical sometimes. Throughout her canon, she slowly starts to learn to become more selfless and especially in regards to her brother, Dipper.
One of the things that stands out about Mabel is how positive she is. Outside of wearing a smile on her face, she always makes silly jokes and wears a bunch of sweaters just for the occasion! Someone is having a bad day? That’s okay, she’ll be sure to turn that frown upside down! Need any advice on love? She’s the girl to go to! If you totally need to cry? While she has seen all the horrors and weirdness that goes on in Gravity Falls, that doesn’t falter her attitude. If anything, it simply makes her want to keep up the demeanor just so she can cheer her friends up! An example of this would be when Dipper accidentally raises the dead, what does she do in this situation? That’s right, keep going with the karaoke party while they take the zombies head on! This also extends to her friends as well. When all of them happened to be cursed by Summerween Trickster, she simply told them that they shouldn’t give up! They should do whatever he said and make the best out of everything! Another example would be when her brother confessed to his crush, Wendy, and when that didn’t work out? She simply tried her best to cheer him up and told him to look to the brighter side of things! In fact, this also extends to how much she wants to everyone to feel how happy she is! When Dipper had trouble getting over his crush, Mabel tried her best to make sure that he found another girl so he can be happy! This also applies to Robbie whom she too wanted him to be happy as well.
Since she's so optimistic, it also reflects on how she sees the world too. From the millions of sweaters and the one time she wore nacho earrings, it's quite clear that she is a rather creative and imaginative girl. While some might call her immature, she likes to think of herself as bold. After all, this was someone who made up Centaurtaur and tends to think things in bright colors! In fact, when she had to fight against Bill, she simply decided to fight him off with a giant hamster wheel and some kitten bazookas! Not to mention this was also the same girl who managed to find one of Gravity Fall's biggest mystery about the who the founder of the town was simply because of how imaginative she could be!
Due to her optimistic nature about everything, Mabel can be a little too confident about how the way things go and especially regarding herself. Given how some of it might be because of how Dipper tends to be good at a lot of things, she tries to overcompensates and declares herself as the “Alpha Twin” simply because she was just a little bit taller than him. Even after Dipper finds a way to make himself taller, she still said she was the Alpha Twin because she just that confident. In addition, because of how assured she is, she also tends to do things without thinking. Throughout her canon, she has shown that she has unintentionally create a chain of events simply because she’s someone who acts first and thinks later. Some of them might be good, some of them might be bad but there’s no denying that she’s a girl who can be rather reckless.
Mabel is a rather caring individual. As mentioned before, when Robbie was having some love trouble, she still went out of her way to make sure that he was still happy in the end. Despite how horribly he treated both her and her friends, she still only wished him the best of luck in his future! On top of that, when Pacifica, a person whom she disliked, was having trouble with her party? She simply said that it was her friend’s dreams to go to that party! While she wanted to go too, she placed more emphasis on her friends first. Speaking of Pacifica, when she met her in Golf Wars, she tried to be friendly to her despite their past history. She told her that it was important to share and that they could probably be friends one day! In Society of the Blind Eye, even when Blind Ivan wasn’t being very nice to them, she still wished him some happiness in the future after his memories were gone! This is the same girl who wanted better working conditions in the Mystery Shack simply because they weren’t happy!
However, the most prominent example would be when she went out of her way to help her brother in Sock Opera. After finding out how Bill hijacked her brother’s body, she knew what had to be done. As she spent the entire summer trying to find some romance, she decided to a selfless thing and destroy her own puppet show in order to save Dipper. Of course, her crush wasn’t impressed in the end and she apologized to her brother about ignoring him.
Since Mabel has a tendency to go after crushes and sometimes disregarding other people, it should come to no surprise that Mabel can be selfish at times. So much so that Bill even made it known to her about how her brother does so much and yet, she does so little. From time and time again, Mabel has shown that can manipulative in getting what she wants. An example would be when Dipper wants to go back in time to prevent Wendy from going out with sometimes else, Mabel just continued to hit her head against a wall for a month simply because he caused her to lose her pig, Waddles. Another example would be when she got a boy band, Sev'ral Timez, to stay with her. While she knew it was the right thing to let them go, she ignored her friends pleas and said that they were going to stay with her forever. It had even gotten to the point where some of the members were getting scared! However, once again, the most obvious example would be when Mabel got into a fight with Dipper. After hearing how he agreed to be their great uncle’s apprentice, the girl just couldn’t take it anymore. While she told him about it was a horrible opportunity for her, she didn’t once think about how Dipper might have felt about the situation.
Despite all of that, the thing to consider is that Mabel is just thirteen years old. She is still just a kid who doesn’t want to grow up and has no idea how to deal with the future. After spending all her life with her brother, she has no idea how to handle being separated from him and move on into the unknown. With her canon point, it’s clear to see that Mabel has matured and will do just about anything as long as her brother’s happy.

AU HISTORY:
Mabel Cedars grew up in Recolle all her life with a younger sibling and two parents. She had a pretty average life compared to most people and grew up to be a cheerful young girl.
Her mother was a store owner while her father wasn't usually around. Since he was always so busy being drafted into war, it was usually the three of them for most of her life. While it didn't bother her too much, it did leave something to be desired compared. Growing up, there was a feeling of being somewhat empty knowing that her family wasn't complete. When she saw all her friends playing with their father, it made her feel left out. While she knew the reason why and her father wanted everyone to be safe, there wasn't a lot she could do. However, despite how much she felt, there was a sense of pride knowing that her father was in the military. Given that he's in the marines, Mabel had no problem letting people know just how much she respects him.
When she was 3, when it was independence day, she decided it would be a good time to dress up in a military outfit just to let people know how much she loves him. So much so, she thought it would be a good idea to draw fireworks, explosions and whatever else she could think of to her classmates. While some of them were in shock and awe, the person that was most impressed was her mother. Knowing that her daughter was this creative in expressing herself, she thought it would be a good idea to let her explore her creativity. From then on, that's when she showed Mabel her love for film and animation as a whole.
For most of her childhood, while her mother was busy with the store, the girl would stare at the television and be amazed at how much was being shown to her. With her mother telling her to pay attention to the details and how much work was being put into everything, it only made Mabel want to become just like the princesses in the film. Before long, that's when the girl slowly started to act as if she was one. Whenever her mother had people coming into the store, Mabel would pretend to act like a character and entertain the guests as much as she wanted!
When she was 5, she thought it would be a good idea to dress up as a princess for Halloween. At the same time, though, she also thought that she needed to be original and make something that no one had ever seen before! When the day finally arrived, she was in a pink dress with a unicorn attached to her head along with some rainbow fairy wings. In addition, she decided to place stickers all over her face because her mother didn't want to use any paint. Again, this gained a lot of attention to some people but at the same time?
She couldn't help but feel like there were a lot of people staring at her with angry looks. It didn't take before a classmate said that she looked weird. Taking that criticism to heart, that's when the poor girl started crying and thought she might have done something wrong. As one of the teachers talked to her, they mentioned how she shouldn't worry about what other people thought about her. The important thing was for her to be herself and be as creative as she wanted to be. At first, Mabel didn't seem to take it to heart. Instead, over the past couple of years, that's when she thought it would be a good idea to keep it to herself. She could pretend to be as weird and wild as she wanted to be at home but at school and anywhere else? She thought there was no point and thought it was better to be quiet.
However, when Mabel saw her younger sibling being picked on, that's when her perspective on everything changed. One day, when she was 9, she saw someone bullying her sibling. When she heard them bickering about food, she thought to let it slide. But it didn't take long before that person was saying mean things to her sibling. Before she did anything, she wondered if she should do something because she didn't want to be labeled as something that she didn't like. Although, it didn't take her long to realize that it was better to do something than to just let someone get away with this.
As she marched up to them, that's when she gave out the loudest scream so a teacher nearby knew what was going on. In that moment, with everyone staring at her, she felt like that little girl again from a long time ago and wondered what to do now. When her teachers told her that it was the right thing to do, that's when the girl slowly started to realize that maybe it wasn't so bad to stand out from the crowd. If being different meant helping someone, maybe it was a good thing.
Once again, it didn't take long for the girl to revert back to the weird person that she was. With the sudden change in personality, it also meant that there weren't a lot of people who wanted to be her friend. While it was something she was trying to adjust to, it didn't bother her too much. As long as she had her few friends and her family, that's all that mattered right?
Especially with her father coming back from the military, it just meant that she needed to spend a lot more time with him! All the more reason why she shouldn’t care about what other people think and listen to her father more. Granted, she still has some problems with him but that’s okay. They could make up for lost time somehow.
Now that Mabel is 14, she has aspirations of wanting to become either an actress or an animator. Either way, as long as it was an outlet for her creativity, then that's all that mattered!
AU PERSONALITY:
Compared to her counterpart, AU!Mabel is a bit more on the weirder side of things. Since she grew up watching mostly cartoon and films, she really wants to act as if she were in the movies. Due to this, AU!Mabel isn't always grounded and will exaggerate her movements to get her point across because she just wants to be seen. In addition, she really believes that in doing this, it means that it could help someone out. After all, by being weird, it could mean bringing someone out of their shell or by making others feel as if they weren't the only weird one too!
On top of that, AU!Mabel is a bit of a loner too. Since she's kind of seen as different compared to her peers, she mostly spends her time just drawing by herself during lunchtime or just mumbling to herself about some grand plan she has coming up. However, while it does bother her a little, it usually doesn't take long before she's distracted by something else. She has no problem keeping herself busy and talking to her other friends who might understand her. Given how her mother is usually busy trying to manage the store and her father being away, she could easily find something else to occupy her time.
Since Mabel is a bit of a loner, she is kind of a bit socially awkward too. She has no problem talking to other people but she can't always read the atmosphere because her head is usually high in the clouds. While she might plan something for other people to feel welcomed, she does it because she assumes things. That and she really want to make friends badly who are on the same wavelength as her.
With her father out of her life a lot, she does wonder if her problems are mostly associated with him. It's not something she wants to think about since she respects him a lot and wants to get to know him. However, she can't deny that there is some resentment from her. Today was going to be another bright day for Mabel! The sun was shining, the flowers were singing and it seemed like the day was going to go well for her! As she walked out of bed with a happy on her face, she just couldn’t wait to go to the cat cafe today. With school right around the corner, she figured now would be the time to go and spend the entire day there. After all, what better way than to spend the last few days as of summer than to go out and be surrounded by a bunch of animals?
The moment that she got dressed and got herself ready, she was about to march out the door! She just couldn’t wait for the birds to magically appear right before her when got outside!
....Or at least, that was what she wanted to happen before a huge loud thunder was heard.
There was a small frown on her face but that didn’t stop her from going outside with an umbrella on! Sure, her cat shirt would probably be a little wet but a matching jacket could always fix that! And off she ventured outside!
During her adventure, she had to admit, it was a little difficult to keep a smile on her face when she had been planning this day for quite sometime. She thought she could pretend to sing in the rain like those actors in that movie she once saw but it seemed rather fruitless with so many people walking around her. While she started humming to herself, it didn’t take long before a small pout started to show on her face.
When she did finally enter the cat cafe, there was a mumble or two coming from her. As the waitress noticed her, she couldn’t help but give a sympathetic sigh.
“Mondays?” She answered. In response, Mabel just simply gave a nod. “Mondays.”
Oh well, she thought to herself, at least she could get started on drawing whatever her mind takes her to today. Hopefully, it’ll be a journey across space and leave this horrible start to the day.

....Or at least, that was what she wanted to happen before a huge loud thunder was heard.
There was a small frown on her face but that didn’t stop her from going outside with an umbrella on! Sure, her cat shirt would probably be a little wet but a matching jacket could always fix that! And off she ventured outside!
During her adventure, she had to admit, it was a little difficult to keep a smile on her face when she had been planning this day for quite sometime. She thought she could pretend to sing in the rain like those actors in that movie she once saw but it seemed rather fruitless with so many people walking around her. While she started humming to herself, it didn’t take long before a small pout started to show on her face.
When she did finally enter the cat cafe, there was a mumble or two coming from her. As the waitress noticed her, she couldn’t help but give a sympathetic sigh.
“Mondays?” She answered. In response, Mabel just simply gave a nod. “Mondays.”
Oh well, she thought to herself, at least she could get started on drawing whatever her mind takes her to today. Hopefully, it’ll be a journey across space and leave this horrible start to the day.
